I started asking myself “what does answered prayer look like” and “why does there seem to be unanswered prayers in my life”? I began to ask God about these questions and this story came to my mind.

It was probably the middle of December sometime, and Jude asked Joel (a.k.a. PawPaw) to take him swimming at our pool which is an outdoor pool. Now to you and I the answer would seem to be obvious – an immediate no, but it did not actually have to be a no but more of a “not right now”. So Joel told him “Yes, Jude we can go swimming but we will have to wait until it’s summer”. To which Jude asked us to set a timer for swimming in the summer. This is actually has become a hilarious but also useful tool in how we are able to help Jude wait for the right time for the things he asks for. We are forever setting timers for him! This kid!! What a joy he is!

This story helped me to at least recognize that sometimes what I perceive as unanswered prayer may actually be an answered prayer in process. It has helped me to see and trust that God sees the bigger picture and has my best interest at heart and knows how and when will be the best for that particular prayer to come to pass. Too often I think we try to figure out why a prayer seems to be going unanswered and we try to explain it away rather than trust and wait.

I truly do not know all the ins and outs or understand the why’s or the why nots that seem to pop up in my life in regards to things that I am believing God for. But I have come to recognize that in every season of my life He has been there with me and for that I am thankful. Sometimes in the midst of certain situations and circumstances in our life it’s just nice to know that we are not alone. And that is the one thing that Jesus promised us.

Abraham waited 25 years for Isaac, Joseph waited 20 + years for his dream to be fulfilled. Many who are listed in Hebrews 12 Hall of Faith died still believing for what to us might seem to be unanswered prayers but to them was faith in action – willing to wait for Gods timing and trust He knows the big picture. I remember our pastor, Pastor Henry, reminding us that faith is what pleases God and he made the statement at some point that has remained in my heart and become my belief a well – “I would rather die having believed then having not believed at all”.

How long am I willing to wait, believe and trust God for the answer to my prayer to come to fullness? My goal – As long as it takes!!!

I came across these scriptures in my reading time recently, Psalms 120:1 and John 14:13-14 which basically say that when I ask God for something that he answers me and John 14 actually says that he will do it.
